Our Story

Welcome Aboard!

Nestled on the beach overlooking scenic Dildo Cove, the Dildo Boathouse Inn sits waiting to welcome visitors to the area. Newly established, the inn offers six rooms with an ocean view, modern décor, up-to-date amenities, and an in-house public dining room known as the Music & Friends Restaurant. The fully licensed restaurant specializes in tasty treats from the sea but also offers vegetarian and gluten-free options. With true Newfoundland hospitality in mind, local musical entertainment can often be found here and we welcome you to share your own talents with us during our open mic kitchen parties! Don’t limit your experience though; hop aboard our 44’ cabin cruiser, the Irish Mist, for a pleasure cruise or excursion in scenic Dildo Cove. It’s not unusual to see whales, porpoises, seals, or eagles on a trip and our knowledgeable captain is always offering up a story or two about historic Dildo Island.

The history behind this venture is as close to our hearts as the sea. The property was originally owned by my father, the late James McEntegart of Dublin, Ireland. Seeing the potential in the area, James partnered with his brother-in-law, my late uncle James Barrett, and the two entrepreneurs began a boat building facility they named the Dildo Boat Yard. Over the course of 20 years, they, along with their crew, built and launched 67 vessels ranging from 35’ to 65’ at this facility. The last vessel built here is my own boat, the Irish Mist, named in honour of my father. The boatyard served its purpose here but having spent much of my childhood watching the world’s most breathtaking sunsets over Dildo Island, I knew that this experience should be shared and enjoyed by many. My wife, Paula, and I embarked on a journey to ensure my father’s legacy here and it has grown into what you see today. Stop by soon for a trip around the harbour or for a pint of Newfoundland brew - we’ll be happy to see you coming!

Enjoy an 'excursion around the bay'!
